Liberia is mostly known as the home of 1 of only 2 international airports in the country that welcomed 1.1 million visitors in 2016. The sound infrastructure of the area along with this growth has made foreign investors sit up and take notice. The plans for a large $1.3 billion Discovery Eco-Park project was announced in 2016, and the opening is planned near the airport in 2020. Being the state of Guanacaste's capital, Liberia is presently enjoying the fastest growth rate in eco-tourism in the country because of the endless wonder and beauty of the area.

These aggressive and massive investments will attract more tourism, stimulate the local economy and bolster local employment. This massive influx of people will boost the retail sector and all real estate markets, a phenomenon which is already apparent.
