Playa del Coco is one of the longest established beach communities in Guanacaste. Since the tourism boom and the addition of the country’s 2nd international airport only 20 miles away in Liberia, this once sleepy beach and fishing town has become a tourism, nightlife and retirement hotspot. This is one of the few towns along the Gold Coast of Guanacaste that actually feels like a city with the many restaurants, bars and night clubs that line the streets. After beautiful sunny days on the pristine beaches, this town come alive at night. With the tourism boom came an infrastructure boom and with that, it attracted commerce making it one of the more prominent business centers in the north of Costa Rica.

The surrounding area is just as alluring as the town itself with all the wonder of Costa Rica nature surrounds you. Adventure, zip line and canopy tours are available in and around the coastal mountains, and sea activities are plentiful like sailing, fishing, diving and just relaxing on the beach. Though this is a town that’s grown up and surged in popularity as a much sought Costa Rica destination, “El Coco” as the locals affectionately call it, will always be that sleepy beach and fishing village deep down.
